Physical Education

At Allestree Woodlands we want all children to experience a wide variety of sports and physical activities, which will enhance life-long sports participation and fitness. We aim to challenge pupils to develop and promote self-esteem, physical confidence and problem solving. We teach children to cope with both success and failure in competition. The curriculum develops a range of subject specific skills such as cooperation, teamwork, leadership, determination, courage, excellence and regard towards others.

All classes are taught by specialist PE staff. This is supplemented with swim teachers and qualified fitness instructors at KS4 and KS5. Children have equal opportunities to take part in a range of sports and physical activities where effort as well as success is recognised. Children are encouraged to attend clubs, and take part in special events such as Sports day and creative outdoor pursuit’s days.

At Woodlands the PE curriculum is structured to provide a broad range of sports experiences during which every child participates. We aim to develop their skills and learning through competitive, team and individual sports. Children with additional needs are provided with appropriate support to enable them to take part and gain confidence in skills, understanding and motivation. We aim to develop all students physically, cognitively, socially and emotionally.

The faculty provides an extensive extra-curricular programme. School teams enter various competitions throughout the academic year, at both City and County level.
