Earthquake in Samoan region

As you may know there have been two devastating earthquakes recently, at Woodlands we have a working seismometer to monitor large earthquakes around the world and smaller earthquakes closer to home. As part of this monitoring I detected the earthquake on the 29th of September in the Samoa Islands region 15658km away. This earthquake was underwater and registered 7.9 on the Richter scale, it caused a tsunami that flooded many inland regions. Hopefully in future, with enough seismometers around this region scientists will be able to give the people of the region enough warning of future events to prevent as much loss of life as possible.
