‘HOT HOUSE’ YOUTH JAZZ ORCHESTRA

Following their highly successful, sell-out gig at Woodlands in October 2007, Hot House (formerly the East Midlands Youth Jazz Orchestra) are back at school, for what promises to be a great evening.

Hot House run different bands, catering for all abilities with a number of senior players going on to enjoy professional careers. The group have a growing reputation as one of the foremost jazz bands of their kind, with a string of international honours, including Outstanding Services to Jazz Education from Long Beach California in 2005 and New York in 2006.

There are currently nine members of Woodlands School playing with Hot House, and having a great time! They have played in Belgium and Holland with the band and are well into rehearsals for a trip to New York in October, where they will play a series of gigs and take in the sights.

On Saturday 28 March, at 7.15 pm, Hot House will be playing at Woodlands School, presenting a programme of fabulous music including a variety of jazz, pop, and film themes. Local real ale will be on sale to help the evening go with a swing.

Tickets at £7 Adults, and £4 Children, are available from the school office or from Linda Page on 01332 609045.

Oaks ‘Hot House’ musicians are Joe Patrick (10O2) and Hamish Rogers (11O1).

ART TRIP TO YORKSHIRE SCULPTURE PARK

Our trip to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park was a fantastic day out!
When we arrived we got off the bus and were split into two groups. My group went on a tour of the park which was good fun. We were shown a variety of different types of art sculptures, sculpted by many different artists but mainly Sophie Ryder’s pieces.
Most of the sculptures were very odd as they were half animal half human.
After the tour we had lunch then we had a few hours to explore the rest of the park, by this time it was raining so we decided to head for the indoor galleries and the Café.
After some snacks and some drawing we headed back to the coach and we set off back to Woodlands.
To sum up our trip—it was a rainy but fun day out! Arthur Allaker (10O2)

WELL DONE—to Kirsty Wolff (11O1) and others who represented Woodlands by taking part in a drama performance at a Headteachers Conference on Thursday 9 October 2008, at Hoar Cross Hall. They were absolutely fantastic and a credit to the school and the House.
