Headteacher

September 2019 start

The Governors of Allestree Woodlands School wish to appoint a high calibre leader who will further improve all aspects of our provision. We are seeking a strategic leader who shares our values, inspires and motivates staff and students, and who demonstrates exemplary skills when interacting and engaging with a wide range of stakeholders within school and beyond. We are looking for an energetic, capable headteacher who has a positive outlook, well-balanced values and a passion to ensure that all students have an excellent, enriching experience of education and development. The vacancy arises from the retirement of the current headteacher, Alan Brady, after 14 years of valued service.

Allestree Woodlands School (11-18) is a mixed, Single Academy Trust with 1355 students, including 249 in the Sixth Form. Although sited in a relatively affluent suburb of Derby, the catchment area includes one of the city’s poorer neighbourhoods. The school is committed to high quality pastoral care, generally achieves well at GCSE and A Level, and is making good progress with its improvement journey.

We are looking for a current head or deputy with experience of making difficult decisions to motivate, deliver and sustain school improvement. Our new head will be approachable for students, parents and staff, will enthuse them to give and achieve their best, and will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. He or she will have high expectations of themselves and others, and be tenacious in putting students first. The successful applicant will also ensure that the school’s systems, organisation and processes are well considered, efficient and fit for purpose in their capacity as executive and director of Allestree Woodlands School Single Academy Trust.
